AMG vs. BRABUS: What’s the Difference? Brands, Model Comparison, and More

If you are a Mercedes fan, you probably already heard about AMG and Brabus. They are both famous for a reason. Both release supercars that many people can only dream about. What is the difference between these two brands and their models? Read on to learn.

AMG

AMG is a subsidiary of Mercedes. It was not always like this: AMG, founded in 1967, used to be an independent engineering company that specialized in the performance improvement of Mercedes cars. It started in a Mercedes race team that was shut down: but two engineers continued working on their race car in secret. They later left Mercedes and started AMG.

AMG became famous after building its first sports car: the Red Pig. This vehicle was an improved Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3, with increased displacement, horsepower, and torque. AMG developed some super cool cars, like AMG Hammer. Mercedes made a partnership with them and started selling AMGs too. In the 90s, AMG developed a car jointly with Mercedes: C36 AMG. In 1999, Daimler took controlling interest: it meant they could only tune Mercedes models. Finally, in 2005, Daimler became the sole owner of AMG.

So now AMG is the performance division of Mercedes-Benz. They tune Mercedes vehicles for additional power and make them extra-sporty and stylish. AMG has all kinds of models, SUVs, sedans, hatchbacks, roadsters, etc.

Brabus

AMG vs BRABUS in short

Unlike AMG now, Brabus is an independent aftermarket tuning company. Mercedes now develops and releases their cars together with AMG, which Brabus might then buy, tune and sell again. So they can take AMGs, which are already tuned and tweaked, then tune and tweak them even more. Brabus also specializes in Mercedes cars, including Smart and Maybach, although they also tuned a few Teslas.

Brabus was founded a bit later than AMG: in 1977. Its founder Bodo Buschmann wanted more from its Mercedes, so he tuned it himself. Comparison of AMG and Brabus cars

Let’s take AMG A 45 S Wagon and 2021 Brabus B45, based on it. The AMG car produces 421 horsepower, which is already amazing. But Brabus B45 produces 450 hp. The peak torque of AMG is also increased by 37 lb-ft. As Slash-Gear says, „that‘s V8 levels of power and torque from an engine with half the displacement“. Brabus B45 can reach 62 mph from a standstill in 3.7 seconds.

Brabus also improved the looks of the AMG A45 S Wagon. The tuned car has special Brabus Monoblock Z 20-inch wheels. Also, special springs that that lower the vehicle by 1.2 inches were added. Brabus also replaced the tires with stickier ones. Still, the car looks mostly the same.

We could also look at Mercedes G63 AMG and Brabus GV12 900, based on this Mercedes model. Regarding the exterior, Brabus increased the diameters of the wheel, made the exhaust system all-stainless, and developed an intake module with a hood scoop on the front bonnet for better air supply. They fitted the interior with customized leather seats and aluminum accessories. Of course, they also tuned the already high-performing vehicle. They upgraded it to 6.3 liters, increased peak torque from 627 lb-ft to 1,109 lb-ft, and horsepower from 577 to 900. Finally, there is the price difference: while G63 AMG was priced a considerable $147,500, Brabus GV12 900 costs a whopping $875,500. Read more here.

Mercedes and Brabus warranty 

One of the main advantages of buying a new car is that you get a warranty. It means that many problems within the first years will cost nothing to fix.

And when you buy a Brabus Mercedes, you get both of their warranties. The usual Mercedes warranty lasts for four years or 50,000 miles: it depends which you reach first. Brabus warranty lasts for three years / 62,000 miles. It applies to all elements installed by Brabus. So, if something happens to a tuned part, you can go to Brabus to get it fixed. If something happens to other parts, you can apply to Mercedes.

Still, you have to be careful. For example, if you perform unauthorized tuning on some part, that could void the warranty. Also, Brabus often tunes the engine. Tuning the engine could affect some other parts, such as the entertainment system. Since Brabus did not touch it, their warranty does not apply. You can apply to Mercedes. How much to maintain a new Brabus

It depends. Usually, such cars as Mercedes are very expensive to maintain. In this list, Mercedes-Benz featured as the second most expensive car to keep in the US, after BMW. The car components are produced by the world’s top engineers. Also, you have to order them from the dealer. That is twice as expensive as buying parts at a regular auto shop. Exotics always cost more to repair – and Brabus could easily be the epitome of exotic. Moreover, powerful cars tend to burn through their components much faster.

Usually, there is little trouble in the first years of car ownership. The new components are not likely to malfunction, and most companies offer warranty and free repairs in the first three years. There are two main types of services for Mercedes cars: service A is after the first 10,000 miles or one year, and service B is after 20,000 miles or two years. After 30,000 miles or three years, it is service A again. Service A includes things like oil changes, filter changes, and fluid corrections. Service B includes all that and extra items, like brake fluid change. According to Motor1, costs for Service A are from $250. Service B costs range from $595 to $933, and tire rotation can cost up to $100. 

There is a great tool to count the cost of your car’s maintenance over five years: Edmunds True Cost to Own. It assumes that people drive 15,000 miles per year, that you are using traditional financing with a loan term of 60 months, and that the down payment was 10%. It includes insurance, taxes, fuel costs: everything that could ever apply to a car, and breaks it down, so you know how much each part costs. 

To give some examples, if you live in Portland, Oregon, and buy a 2021 AMG GT Sedan 63, its maintenance could cost about $8,500 over five years. It will be much higher in the fifth year than in the first years too. If you live in Los Angeles, add another thousand because of taxes. For Brabus-tuned vehicles, add another thousand or so. And the longer you operate the car, the higher its price will grow.

If you own a Brabus, you might need to fly over the technicians from Europe to check it. Some people with exotic cars even faced a situation when they had to fly the vehicle itself! Bringing the technicians could cost more than $20,000. And shipping an SUV across the ocean could cost $40,000!

5 Interesting Facts About Brabus Brand and Brabus Cars

If you came here, you probably already know what Brabus is. It’s one of the world’s largest tuners, specializing in aftermarket tuning of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Smart, and Tesla. And there are many interesting things about Brabus and Brabus cars. Read on to learn!

1. Brabus was founded because its owner wanted more from his Mercedes

The founder of Brabus is Bodo Buschmann. He was born into quite an affluent family: his father had a Mercedes car dealership. Bodo was driving a Porche 911 at the age of 22. The problem was that he would park his Porche right outside the dealership. He was told to get a Mercedes. Bodo got an S-Class, considered to be one of the best. But it still wasn’t powerful enough for him. He couldn’t find a mechanic to upgrade his car, so he did it himself. The vehicle retained all its luxury but now also had the performance of a sports car.

Soon, people began noticing his vehicle, and some became interested. Bodo decided to start his own company. However, in Germany of that time, you had to have two founders, so he asked his classman Klaus Brackman for help: they combined the first letters of their surnames and named it Brabus. And the rest, as they say, is history.

2. Brabus is always breaking records with its cars

They first made it to the Guinness book of records in 1986: Brabus reduced the drag coefficient (CX) more than anyone ever did. The lucky car was Sedan W124. The hinged spoilers of Brabus managed to reduce its CX to 0.26, which was very impressive at the time and has never been done before. It was one of their first records but not the last.

They can also boast of having some of the fastest cars in the world. First, in 2011, they introduced the world’s fastest sedan, which could reach a speed of 230 mph although it was electronically limited to 217 mph. In 2021, they released 900 Rocket Edition, based on AMG GLE 63S Coupe, which they claim is the world‘s fastest street-legal SUV. It has a top speed of 205 mph and can reach 62mph in 3.2 seconds. 3. There is no Brabus logo on the steering wheel

Brabus puts its logo in many places after it transforms the Mercedes-Benz car. However, one place they avoid is the steering wheel: you can find a Mercedes-Benz logo there. It is mainly because of regulations and safety reasons. International standards recommend not touching the wheel because it could compromise safety a lot. Also, Brabus does not have the technology to produce airbags. And Brabus cares about safety a lot. Even when they tune for clients, they refuse a request if they believe it could become unsafe. They also always give a three years warranty on every part they tune.

But, if you really want to have a Brabus logo everywhere, it’s possible to cover the Mercedes-Benz logo on the steering wheel with a Brabus sticker!

4. Brabus is eco-friendly

It does not sound like Brabus would be very eco-friendly, right? After all, Brabus is a lot about enhancing power, and powerful cars are often not very ecological. But Brabus is greener than it seems. In their engines, they include lower power consumption. And the lower the fuel consumption, the greener the vehicle. Actually, Brabus made the very first tuned car that met strict EURO VI Emission Standard.

5. Brabus has a marine brand, a classic cars line, and a fashion line

Most of you probably know Brabus as a Mercedes tuner. But did you know that Brabus also has a marine brand? When Brabus met Axopar, a Finnish boat manufacturer, their goals and ideas aligned. And so, the Brabus Marine brand was born in 2017. They transform and redefine some of the already great Axopar boats into Brabus Shadow super boats.

Brabus also restores classic Mercedes cars. At the end of the restoration, you get a historically authentic car of perfect quality. Each part is inspected and recondition if good or replaced by new, genuine Mercedes parts if damaged or worn. How much does it cost to rent a Mercedes Brabus?

Do you like Mercedes cars? Especially some of their greatest creations, like Mercedes G-Class or AMG models? What if such models, already fancy and powerful and expensive, were made even better and more luxurious? This is what Mercedes Brabus cars are. Would it not be great to drive around in such a car for a while? Read on to learn how much it costs to rent a Mercedes Brabus.

So, what is Mercedes Brabus?

If you are into tuning and Mercedes cars, you probably already know about Brabus. Brabus is one of the largest Mercedes aftermarket tuning companies. The largest one is Mercedes-AMG, which belongs to Daimler AG, which, as you probably know, owns Mercedes-Benz. AMG models are a bit easier to find than Brabus models. 

Brabus takes cars that are already powerful and fancy and makes them even more powerful and fancy. It enhances the style, safety, performance – basically everything. For example, the Mercedes AMG G63, already very powerful, has 585 horsepower. Brabus Mercedes AMG G63 has a horsepower of 800. Brabus also added its valve-controlled sports exhaust system, a rooftop add-on with LED beam lights, and so on. It became as luxurious and powerful as a car can get. 

How much does a Brabus cost? 

It will probably come as no surprise that it is quite pricy. After all, Brabus takes an already great model and makes it even better. 

The cheapest Brabus model is Brabus 92R, an all-electric Smart EQ. It costs about $55,000. It is still a big difference from the average price of a new car in the US – about $38,000. Though, this cost is also considered to be very high.

The cheapest Brabus 4×4 vehicle is Brabus 550 Adventure 4×4, and it costs about $245,000 gross. It has 550 horsepower, a huge improvement compared to the original 416 hp. For a model released in 2020, G V12 900, of which only ten units were released, the price starts from around $668,000. 

Another model, a Bonkers 888-Horsepower Brabus G65, described as “the world’s most powerful twelve-cylinder off-road vehicle”, costs about $800,000. One of the most expensive Brabus models, Brabus Invicto Luxury VR6 Plus ERV, costs about $850,000. These are some of the highest possible prices for Brabus models.

How much does it cost to rent a Mercedes Brabus?

So how much to rent one? Since the price is high, it is not cheap to rent one too. Let’s look at some of the rent offers for Mercedes Brabus.

In Marbella, Southern Spain, you can find a Mercedes G AMG Brabus for €600 or $700 a day. The deposit is €3,000 ($3,524). In Slovakia, which generally has lower prices, a Mercedes G63 Brabus 700 can be rented for only €450 ($527.69) a day if you rent for at least four days. If you rent for more than ten days, the price becomes even lower. This is one of the lowest prices we found.

In Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, the Mercedes G350D Brabus costs RM2,400 or $573 a day if you rent it for one to three days. It becomes cheaper if you book it for lengthier periods. In Dubai, a Mercedes G500 Brabus can cost AED3000 a day or about $816. 

What about the US? In Las Vegas, you can rent a Mercedes G63 by Brabus for $899 for 24 hours with LA Exotic Car Rentals. Also, 100 miles are free, and it costs $3.99 per mile afterward. In Miami, we found that the lowest possible price could be $550 a day: which likely will only apply if you rent the car for a long period, such as several weeks.

You may also have to pay extra fees, such as a young driver charge. It could apply to people under 25 or 30, depending on the company. Such a charge is typically from $25 to $35 a day. Most powerful Mercedes AMG car yet? Costs how much?! Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance

A new AMG, their most powerful road car ever, was announced in September 2021, and is now on sale. It is the Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance, and it is the plug-in hybrid version of the GT four-door coupé. This is pretty new for Mercedes-AMG, which traditionally produces petrol performance cars. But not so surprising when the whole world tries to become greener – and quite laudable.

While the new version does not look much different in appearance, it has astounding power. The new car has 843hp and a maximum torque output of up to 1,400Nm, the combined power of the petrol engine and electric motor. It can reach 60mph in less than 3 seconds and 134mph in less than 10 seconds. It easily overpowers the AMG Black series, previously its most powerful vehicles. But it is no wonder GT 63 S E Performance is so powerful when it was created with elements from Formula 1. 

The pricing starts from €220,000 ($247,222). Deliveries begin in April in Europe. US buyers will likely have to wait for a further date.

Technological features

The price of the Mercedes AMG GT 63 S E Performance might seem high, but it is pretty good for a car packing so much power, individuality, and luxury. For example, one of the cool technological features is the suspension system which ‘adjusts the damping force for each wheel to suit the situation in just a few milliseconds, according to Bloomberg.

It has a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 petrol engine, a 200hp electric motor, and a 6kWh battery. That means that you can drive quietly and emission-free with the engine off for over seven miles. Your neighbors can continue sleeping soundly. Although, fun fact, Mercedes-AMG added fake engine sounds inside so you and passengers can hear them! You don‘t need lots of fuel, too, as befits a greener car. The combined fuel consumption is just 29.7 miles per gallon or 7.9 liters per 100 km.

Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance Special Edition

If you want even more exclusivity, you could get the special edition for roughly 20% more. GT 63 S E Performance Edition is painted with Green Hell Magno paint. It comes with AMG Night Package (glossy black finishes on several elements) and black 21-inch AMG wheels with a five-twin-spoke design. If you dislike the color, you can get the vehicle in red color and with silver wheels.

10 Cool Facts about Mercedes AMG

Mercedes is known as a luxury car brand. But that is not enough for some people. They want more performance, more speed, more comfort, more everything. Luckily, Mercedes-Benz has a performance division, AMG, which produces top-notch cars. So, here are some things you might not have known about AMG.

1. AMG started in a garage (against Mercedes’ wishes)

Not only Amazon or rock bands start their career in a garage. In the 1960s, two German engineers, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher, worked on 300 SE racing engine at Daimler-Benz. However, the company shut down its race team. But the duo did not want to stop their work, so they continued working on their race car secretly in a garage, against orders. In 1965, their colleague participated in the German Touring Car Championship with their 300 SE engine and won ten times. This was the beginning of the well-earned AMG reputation growth. Aufrecht and Melcher left Mercedes and founded AMG to make fast road cars.

2. So what does AMG mean?

You might have wondered what AMG means. Some people think it stands for Affalterback Motor Group. But this is not true, and it’s actually quite simple: the three letters come from their creators and the place of creation. A stands for Aufrecht, M for Melcher, two of the founders, and G is for Aufrecht’s hometown Großaspach, where they worked on their engine. 

3. AMG car won in 24-Hour Le Mans

24-Hour Le Mans is an endurance race in France that counts how much distance a team can cover in 24 hours. The winning team of 1989 won the race with a Sauber C9 AMG, covering a distance of approximately from San Fransisco to New York in 24 hours. That’s some distance!

4. They improved the world’s fastest sedan at the time

Although Aufrecht and Melcher left Mercedes, they still considered Mercedes models the best cars. But they improved upon them, of course. They took a 300 SEL, a flagship Mercedes luxury model, and the fastest sedan in the world then. But it was really big, weighing over 3,800 pounds. AMG changed the motor, wheel track, etc. Their creation with 428 horsepower was named the Red Pig. It debuted in SPA 24 Hours in 1971. People couldn’t believe that a Mercedes car was winning against race cars. AMG got many clients afterward, asking to modify their Mercedes cars.

Later, in 1986, AMG took a 300 SE, changed its engine with a much more powerful one, made the car more aerodynamic. It was called AMG Hammer and could reach 60 miles per hour in 5 seconds and had a top speed of 178 miles per hour. The car was so successful that it even made Mercedes worry.

5. AMG is now a part of Daimler and Mercedes-Benz

So Mercedes decided to acquire it. AMG worked independently for some time, but they are now a part of Mercedes-Benz: its performance division. Daimler took controlling interest of AMG in 1999, which meant that AMG could only tune Mercedes cars. In 2005, Daimler became the sole owner of AMG. They decided they’d better sell badass Mercedes cars themselves rather than let someone else do it.

The first jointly developed car was C 36 AMG. It was also the first AMG car sold in the US at Mercedes-Benz dealerships. Another one of the first cars that AMG built for Mercedes was CLK GTR, a race car. When it was made into a road car, the Guinness Book of World Records recorded it as the most expensive production car built, costing $1,547,620. AMG also supplies the engines CLK GTR uses to Pagani for Zonda and Huarya cars. Only one man is certified to build these engines, and he has his station separated from everybody else.

6. AMG had partnerships with Mitsubishi

Although AMG is now part of Mercedes, they have made other partnerships. They had some with Mitsubishi. But the first wasn’t really successful, as mostly only car appearance was altered. 7. One man – one engine 

AMG engines are handcrafted and must follow the one man, one engine policy. It means that just one craftsman assembles the AMG engine from start to finish. Then this person places a plaque with their signature on the assembled engine. There was only one exception when an engineer built CLS 63 AMG with the help of Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher. 

8. Mercedes AMG SLS bombs out the doors if it flips

AMG SLS is one of the coolest AMG models with its iconic gullwing doors, which open vertically. And there is one more cool thing about these doors: there are explosive capsules that will bomb out the doors if the car flips on its roof. Talk about cool safety!

9. There are AMG boats

You have heard of AMG cars, but now get ready for AMG boats. In 2007, AMG partnered with Cigarette Racing Team, specializing in custom-made, handcrafted, high-performance boats, just like AMG in cars. This partnership produced 12 ultra-exclusive boats. One of the newest is Cigarette 41-foot Nighthawk AMG Black Series, inspired by the AMG Black series. This super boat has 2,250 horsepower and can reach 90 miles per hour in open water.

But you might still want to make some extra money on the side with your Brabus car. How much can you earn when you rent it out and how to do it? Read on.

A business renting out Brabus cars?

Many people want to start a business and be their boss. The exotic car rental business sounds appealing. We already wrote about starting an exotic car rental business. Unfortunately, it is not among the easiest businesses to start. Although the demand is high, the supply is also very high. It can be hard to compete with long-established car rental companies.

Of course, you can make it if you research, have a good plan, and work hard. The main things in starting such a business are cars, car insurance, legal protection, and marketing. It is best to start with 3-5 vehicles. Unfortunately, banks might not want to finance your purchases if they know you plan to rent them out. You could also partner with people who already own such cars. Insurance is also hard to get and quite costly. Then, of course, you need marketing so that people learn about your business and legal protection so that no one tries to steal your cars.

But you do not have to start a business to rent out one car. You can partner with companies to list your car on their sites or apps. They usually take a commission when someone rents out your vehicle, such as 30% of your earnings. Some may also ask for a listing fee. In Spain, one company offers Mercedes G AMG Brabus for $700 a day, with a deposit of $3,524 (€3,000). In Dubai, you can rent a G500 Brabus for about $816. LA Exotic Car Rentals offer a Mercedes G63 Brabus for $899. One of the lowest Brabus rental prices we found is $527.69 per day in Slovakia if you rent for at least four days.

So there you have it: you can rent out your Brabus for at least $500 a day. And more if you have a good car, are in a popular location, or rent out on weekends. Usually, a lot depends on the time you rent out the vehicle. Shorter rentals are more expensive since you have to do more work by meeting people, giving keys, checking, etc. You can easily ask for $100, maybe even more, for an hour. If you rent out it for a week, you may have to decrease the daily price to maybe $300-400.

Of course, a lot depends on your car, especially how old and how rare it is. Over a month, you can make several thousand dollars, depending on how many days a month you rent out the car. You can make a nice amount of cash on the side if you rent out your Brabus. However, there are some things you must consider if you want to earn money renting out your exotic car.

What to consider if you want to rent out your car?

First, be careful about insurance, especially if you rent out by yourself. Your usual insurance might not apply if something happens when your car is in the hands of renters. Or you could call the insurance agents of your renters and ask if the insurance covers them. Also, it is best to have trackers on the vehicle. This way you know where it is or even if people accelerate too hard in your car.

Be responsive to people because it helps you get clients and good reviews. Happy renters might also recommend you to their friends or come back themselves. Also, meet people before you rent out your precious car and explain everything about it: your renters might not have a lot of experience with rare cars. And check their IDs!
